Stopping the Rise of Christian Nationalism

  • The CFC investigated Speaker Johnson’s historic ties to Christian Nationalism. After he refused to sit down for a discussion about safeguarding religious freedom and other constitutional rights, the CFC released a white paper documenting his alarming record on church-state issues and outlining questions about his intentions as Speaker.

  • The CFC brought in Amanda Tyler, Samuel L. Perry, Jemar Tisby and Andrew Seidel to brief members about the role of White Christian Nationalism during the January 6th Insurrection. The briefing focused on a new, 66-page report prepared by the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty and the Freedom From Religion Foundation about the role of Christian nationalism in the Capitol attack and its implications for the future of democracy.

  • In December 2020, Co-Chairs Huffman and Raskin presented the Biden-Harris Transition Team with a set of recommendations from Secular Democrats of America to restore constitutional secularism in the White House and tackle Christian Nationalism.

  • The CFC holds briefings and town halls to study and highlight the growing threat of Christian Nationalism and its role in the January 6th insurrection, including a prescient October 2020 briefing that outlined the dangers of Christian Nationalism months before the January 6th attack.
