Legislation
As a group encompassing a vast array of religious perspectives and policy priorities, the CFC has developed legislation, endorsed policies, and worked to get bills signed into law that reflect the caucus's mission.
In the 118th Congress, CFC members introduced the Health Share Transparency Act, Preventing Private Paramilitary Activity Act, and a resolution to denounce book bans.
In May of 2024, Co-Chairs Huffman and Raskin reintroduced theirresolution designating May 4th “National Day of Reason”.
Other priority bills – including the Do No Harm Act and Women’s Health Protection Act – continue to gain traction with the CFC’s endorsement.
The CFC successfully amended the House-passed NDAA in 2023 to help ensure the military chaplain corps reflects the religious and nonreligious diversity of America’s servicemembers and families.
In 2022, Co-Chair Huffman introduced the first federal legislation to protect consumers from deceptive practices by health care sharing ministries.
The CFC authorized a memorial to Thomas Paine in the District of Columbia through the House appropriations bill, honoring his legacy of fighting for democratic self-governance, reason, and science.
With the CFC's support, the House passed the NO BAN Act and Equality Act in the 116th and 117th Congresses.
The STOP FGM Act became law in the 116th Congress.
In 2020, the House passed Co-Chair Raskin’s resolution calling for the global repeal of blasphemy, heresy, and apostasy laws.
