Key Provisions:

  • The order establishes the commission to advise the White House on religious liberty policies, including: Reviewing the foundations of religious liberty in America; Identifying current threats to religious liberty; Developing strategies to preserve religious liberty protections.

  • It is set to terminate on July 4, 2026, the 250th anniversary of American Independence, unless extended by the President.
  • The Commission is an attempt to institutionalize Christian nationalism within the federal government and will weaponize religious freedom to advance a narrow, right-wing Christian political agenda including: undermining access to reproductive health care; excluding LGBTQ+ individuals from public life; and promoting specific religious viewpoints in public education.
  • It will promote extreme policy goals that undermine genuine religious liberty. It promotes the false narrative that Christians are being unfairly discriminated against.
  • The Commission violates Federal Advisory Board Act requirements for balanced perspectives.  It is primarily composed of far-right Christian nationalists.
